FULL TIME RV meals

One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well.

—Virginia Woolf

A  Chinese proverb says, “To know the road ahead, ask those coming back.” We share our restaurant experiences for those who may be passing us on the road.

We also share proven RV seasonal recipes and three secret cooking tools all full-timers should have.

EATING IN

Our motto is: Eat in More, Eat Out Less.

And we enjoy eating in. It’s nice to have a hot, steaming bowl of deliciousness in your lap while watching Netflix after a long driving day!

EATING OUT

When we decide to go to a restaurant, we want it to be a good experience.

But sometimes those experiences don’t turn out well.

Like the time we walked into a local diner in Stonewall, Texas to experience “when in Rome,” and walked out feeling like the outsiders we are.

WINNER, WINNER

But then we find real winners, like the Purple Cow in Hot Springs, Arkansas or Van Rensselaer’s on Cape Cod.

ALL ABOUT RV MEALS

Eating In & Out

EATING IN

Below are the only cooking appliances I use other than the microwave. Not once have I turned on the RV oven or stovetop. Plus, I don’t understand how to use the microwave convection oven, and don’t plan to learn since I can cook anything and everything with just these three handy, RV friendly appliances.

Go here for FREE RECIPES using these perfect appliances for full-time RV life.

INSTANT POT: This little jewel is the perfect RV cooking appliance. You can literally cook anything in a matter of minutes. It’s easy to learn despite its initial intimidating appearance. You can see for yourself using these FREE quick and easy Instant Pot recipes to make in your RV now. You’ll never go back to traditional cooking again!

TOASTER OVEN: There are many toaster ovens to choose from, but this brand from Breville fits our RV cooking needs perfectly. Instead of turning on the oven and heating the entire rig, we push a button. It’s smart too with its Element IQ cooking technology that cooks your items differently. From french fries, to bagels, to casseroles, the Breville Toaster Oven does it all!

Ninja Blender /Processor: This powerful beaut makes blending and mixing a breeze. The tired blender I had before caused frustration with the constant turning off, scraping, turning on, scraping routine that took too much time and made a mess.  Once I purchased a “real” blender like this Ninja, full-time RV life is even better!

• POPCORN

Is there anything worse than smelling burnt microwave popcorn?

Yes, there is.

It’s worse when you burn popcorn in an RV!

I swear the smell lingers for weeks making you promise yourself you’ll never pop popcorn again.

Switching to a large popcorn popper that takes up precious RV space and difficult to clean proved to be a bad choice.

What’s a popcorn lover like me to do?

The answer is the POPCO Microwave Popcorn Popper.

It’s BPA free, cute, and clean-up is a snap. It folds up flat as a pancake I store underneath the stove saving space for bigger items.  I’ll never go back to traditional popcorn popping again!

• MAGNETIC MEASURING SPOONS

I love these magical magnetic measuring spoons that fit nice and sweet in the utensil drawer.

Not only do they stick together like high school BBFs preventing having to search the teaspoon you need, but they also balance on the counter, so the contents don’t spill making a mess.

Another great thing about these measuring spoons is how one end of the spoon is narrow for spices, and the other end is round for liquids.  What a genius design!

EATING OUT

A “good” restaurant doesn’t mean upscale cuisine served in an ornate setting while the waiter stands at your table ready to fill your already full glass.

As full-time RVers, especially after a long driving day, a “good” restaurant to us means three things:

1.  Good Service

2.  Dietary Options

3.  Pleasant Ambience

I sprinkle restaurant reviews throughout the website in posts like the time we went to BurgerBurger in Fredericksburg, Texas during our maiden voyage (7 Unexpected RV Maiden Voyage Lessons that Really Happened).

If you’re in an area we have visited, and want to see what restaurants we have experienced, go to the Full-Time RV Travel page.
